The Biofertiliser Certification Scheme (BCS) provides assurance to consumers, farmers, food producers, and retailers that biofertiliser produced from anaerobic digestion processes is safe for human, animal and plant health. Biofertiliser is the name adopted for the digestate that is certified under the BCS for end-of-waste and quality assured status.
BCS has been informed by the Environment Agency that they will publish the Interim Anaerobic Digestate Resource Framework (ADRF) and an accompanying Regulatory Position Statement (RPS) on Monday August 4, 2025.These documents are intended to replace the current Anaerobic Digestate Quality Protocol (ADQP), and will update the end-of-waste criteria for digestate as well as introduces several other changes.
